What is it?
Augmentation mammoplasty (or breast augmentation) is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery in the world. This procedure makes it possible to increase the size and/or improve the shape of the breast using breast implants, whenever the volume is small or disproportionate to the body.
Women who are candidates for breast augmentation surgery are those who have:
- small breast volume (breast hypoplasia);
- slight ptosis (drooping breast);
- loss of volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- loss of breast volume following weight loss;
- breast asymmetry.
Regardless of the shape, size or consistency of the implant, breast augmentation should be carried out according to the woman's wishes, respecting her body characteristics. As well as being virtually lifelong, today's implants make it possible to personalise the result, making them more integrated into the chest. In cases of slight augmentation, fat augmentation can be a solution. This is a lifelong filler, but some of the injected volume is lost in the first few weeks.

Breast augmentation
To increase breast size while maintaining a natural appearance. This was the wish of the patient who underwent this breast augmentation, performed by Dr Ricardo Carvalho.
In this clinical case, the subfascial technique was used and the prostheses were inserted through a small incision located around the areola. This way, the scar should be perfectly concealed.
